If you’ve played dice, or seen dice played around your neighborhood, you may have been in the ghetto. Whether it be Asian ghettos, American ghettos, or European ghettos, there’s generally a version of Hi-Lo, Sic Bo, or Cee-Lo played in the neighborhood.

Well, craps is nothing like that.

You want to know how to play craps?  The general premise of craps is to match the value of the original two dice you threw on your first throw.

#1. The shooter (the person throwing the dice) places their bet on the “Pass Line”.  It will be explained why at the next point
#2. The first roll is what they call the “come out” roll.  This is the introductory roll that will need to be matched.  With two exceptions.

• If a 7 or an 11 is thrown on the come out roll, those who bet the “Pass Line” will win even money (1:1), and a new come out roll will be thrown by the next shooter (chosen clockwise).
• If a 2, 3, or 12 is thrown on the come out roll, then everyone who had bets on the pass line would lose automatically and the next shooter will throw.

#3. If a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10 is throw at the come out roll, a black and white disk called a “puck” will be placed on the number that came up in the “ON” position.  (show on the diagram above, located above the “COME”).
#4. If you rolled a 9, your premise it to roll another 9 before you roll a 7 to win on the pass line.

• If you roll a 9 again, those who have bets on the “Pass Line” will win even money.  Those who bet on the “Don’t Pass Bar” will automatically lose.
• If you roll a 7 before you get to the 9, everyone who bet on the “Don’t Pass Bar” will automatically win even money, and those on the “Pass Line” will automatically lose.

#5. Generally most of the money are won by taking odds.  Here’s the breakdown on these payouts.  For more information on these bets, check out the video below.  Don’t worry about the payouts, it’s the dealer’s job to know them and pay you out accordingly.

If you bet behind the pass line:

• 4 or 10 pays 2 to 1
• 5 or 9 pays 3 to 2
• 6 or 8 pays 6 to 5

If your bet behind the don’t pass line:

• 4 or 10 pays 1 to 2
• 5 or 9 pays 2 to 3
• 6 or 8 pays 5 to 6

That’s the basics.  Now the question is what are the other bets people make at the tables like field, horn bets, don’t come bar, etc.  Those are one off bets, which means if it doesn’t hit the first time, you automatically lose that specific bet.  The odds and payouts differ depending on the bet.  For more info on these bets, check out the video below.
